Welcome To Our Quaker Worship Group.
“The most valuable aspect of religion is that it provides us with a framework for living. I have always felt that the beauty and power of Quakerism is that it exhorts us to live more simply, more truthfully, more charitably.” – Robert Lawrence Smith
The Macon Quaker Worship Group meets on the second Sunday of each month at 10:30 am. We are a traditionally unprogrammed Quaker group, which means that our worship does not involve a minister or religious leader. We believe that each person can have a direct experience of God, making us ministers to each other.
Our meetings can easily be described as "prayer meetings", since we worship in silence. This helps us listen and respond to the "still small voice" of the Light within that is found in everyone. We wait together silently in faith and remain open to the word of God. If a leading comes, we may speak the message into the silence.
Quakerism began under the leadership of George Fox in England in 1652 and was one of the original protestant Christian religions. Since we do not recite creeds, people may ask, “What do Quakers believe?” While each Friend’s relationship to God may vary, we hold to a number of Quaker Testimonies. Among these are simplicity, peace, integrity, community and equality.
Our meetings for worship may be an hour of worshipful silence or may contain several messages spoken out of the silence by Friends. We share fellowship following the meeting.
